It seems Microsoft is looking for someone to head up its Social Media Team. I’m of the school of thought that believes Microsoft-bashing is like shooting fish in a barrel. It’s a bit too easy and perpetrators end up coming across as the worst kind of supercilious know-it-all.

But the company doesn’t make it easy when the people who work there churn out turgid prose like this:

“We are looking for a senior social media guru to provide leadership among cross functional teams and build out scaleable marketing programs which will significantly impact both consumer preference and business results for the Windows business.”

I think something like this would have sufficed:

“We’re looking for someone who loves the Internet to help us engage with our customers and connect with them in new and innovative ways. Preferably you’ve had plenty of experience, but we’d like to hear from anyone with bright ideas about how we can reshape our digital strategy.”

From the Royal Geographical Society's Afghan archives Feb 12

Absolutely loved this audio slideshow the BBC have put together of some of the Society’s images from its Afghan archive. Excellently narrated, and absolutely intriguing. Some amazing shots of Afghanistan as far back as the middle of the 19th century.

The exhibition ‘From Kabul to Kandahar 1833-1933′ is on at the Royal Geographical Society until February 26.

William 'Fatty' Foulke Feb 6

I like the sound of Fatty Foulke:
